Meghan: just keep swimming

What is the big picture?
What is the meaning of it all?
Why do we keep on fighting, struggling to live?
The truth is; there is no reason.
We exist purely on our own whims.
If you disappeared today, who would miss you? Would anyone’s life stop for little ol’ you?
When people pull down the big picture of life, the whole tapestry of it, and ask you intently “Why do you matter?” what comes to mind? Jobs, friends, places you’ve been, foods you’ve tasted, things you’ve created. But to the whole swirling mass of humanity it’s just a grain lost in the dessert.
So who matters? Maybe those great artists, inventors, or politicians of our time? Those ones who have changed things for the better? Newton, Michelangelo, Einstein, or Roosevelt (the hot one with polio)? But really what did they do that another exceptional individual couldn’t have done in their place? Where there is a need for creation, that creation happens. Whomever creates it could be anyone really, it was just chance that these famous people got there first. So are individuals needed? The rushing tide of homo sapiens the world has is eager to fill what nooks and crannies are left in ‘the system’. It’s a miracle that individualism is still valued. Despite all odds the fish keep swimming. And I ask, what is the point?
There is no point.
So you ask me, why you’re alive?
Because you feel like it.
You ask me what to do?
If you are alive at your whim, do what your whims tell you to do.

hell yeah, i'm not here to go down in history as the first to think to do something. i'm here because as far as i can tell, it beats the alternative.

i liked your rambling. probably a lot of people wont. but it follows my philosophy.

Or you could like live for other people and for yourself. You could live to love yourself and others. Those changes make a difference. My grandmother lives to love me, even if she is dying. And I will remember that love and it will change who I am, so I in turn will write a comment on your blog, telling you that there are indeed reasons to keep living. You don't have to make history, you don't have to be famous, you just have to live your life so that you are proud of every affect you had on someone else that makes the world a better place. And you have to learn that you are important.

So that's what I learned Mr. Wood. I should love me because I am important. And because you all love me, I can love others. That's how we make the world a better place, and that's why we live.

This also ties into God, but I've come acustom to sharing that only when its asked for.

And well, its a good blog.
And we all have to come to terms with why we choose to continue to live, otherwise we wouldn't continue living.

And I've said too much for a comment- maybe I'll write a blog.

Meghan,
How can we have a beautiful forest without the individual trees, and what about that one special tree that hangs on to the cliff face making it complete. Another tree would not quite be the same. If Eve weren't here, there would be no Doug or Jordan or Fearsome Fivesome. Then, there would be no world, no galaxy, no universe - only the void. Don't lose sight of the trees because of the forest.

And, I don't like sand in my desserts; I like brownies with nuts and ice cream.

P.S. Good for you Sarah.

but sandy desserts are so delicious... hmmm...what I meant by the blog was; yes many aspects of the world are pointless, but despite the fact that whatever we do means nothing (in the big picture-sense) I'm going to inflict my doings upon the world anyway. Nothing would ever convince me to just give up and die, I'm not selfless enough to stop acting in the world, so people will just have to put up with me.
And I feel like loving and being nice to people, not going on a murderous rampage like some people feel compelled to do, so that's what I'm going to do. I just have to remember that it's a choice I've made, not one I've been forced into by others.

there is beauty in individuality. The masterpiece tapestry is made up of thousands of threads. but each thread is beautiful.

You are beautiful.
